2011 Campaign Goal Updates

United Way Makes Last Push to Reach Campaign Goal

With less than 45 days to go, United Way of Coastal Georgia’s annual campaign to help local agencies and programs is at 80 percent of its $1.155 million goal in cash and pledges. "This year's campaign is about much more than reaching our $1.155 million goal," United Way President and CEO Missy Neu said. "It's about advancing the common good through distributions to our partner agencies who are experiencing increases in the demand for services." Neu added “the most vulnerable of our neighbors will be in jeopardy” if the campaign can’t provide the agencies with the necessary support to keep their programs running.
It’s never been easier to give to United Way. Although some people still think of the writing the traditional single check or payroll deduction as the way to give, there are additional ways which can be easy, effortless – and virtually painless. The United Way offers several options to LIVE UNITED: automatic monthly/quarterly credit card billing; electronic bill pay through your bank (you set up an automatic payment once and forget about it); and the old fashioned “bill me” option is still available. Individuals just need to make a pledge and then decide what payment option works best for them.
Over 100 Employee workplace campaign presentations have already taken place with more scheduled. We have seen many increases in these campaigns, but these are challenging times for many of our area employers and employees so they cannot do it alone. The whole community must come together and support the effort.
Funds generated from the campaign will be distributed to the local partner agencies and the following are eligible for funding: American Red Cross, America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, Boy Scouts of America Okefenokee Area Council, Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, Coastal Coalition for Children, Coastal Medical Access Project, Communities in Schools of Glynn County, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Glynn, FERST Foundation of Glynn County, Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, Glynn Community Crisis Center, Glynn Community Crisis Center, Golden Isles Children’s Center, Inc., Golden Isles Career Academy, Heather House of Glynn County, Hospice of Golden Isles, Mary House Learning Center and Day Care, Senior Citizens Inc., Speech, Hearing and Rehabilitation Enterprises, STAR Foundation, The Salvation Army, McIntosh County 4-H, & YWCA/YMCA.
Many of these agencies would not be able to provide the same level of services to Glynn & McIntosh county residents without contributions made by local individuals and businesses to the United Way campaign.
“The United Way is working to improve the quality of life for thousands of our neighbors all across Glynn & McIntosh Counties,” said Beth Lemke, 2011/12 Campaign Chair. “We are extremely grateful for the support that we have received during this campaign. We are so fortunate to live in a place where people open their hearts even in one of the most depressed economic times in our lives. These are the times that our community needs the services provided by United Way agencies the most. Please consider a gift this year.”
Neu is hopeful the goal will be reached as the campaign continues through January 22nd: "We hope that the community will step up and help make that goal." There is still potential to raise the projected $1.155 million – and surpass it. She urged those who have not made a gift to the campaign to consider doing so and those who have given to consider giving more.
The members of the United Way Board of Directors are hopeful that by calling attention to the campaign's progress, enough donations might still be made to make up the extra $231,000 needed to meet the campaign goal. Promising signs that helped get the campaign to 80% so far are also strong indicators for the future.
Donations are still being accepted.
