2011 Volunteer of the Year

Nora Morris honored as 2011 Volunteer of the Year for Glynn County
Nora Morris was presented with the United Way of Coastal Georgia’s 2011 Volunteer of the Year for Glynn County at the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce annual dinner held in the Morgan Center on historic Jekyll Island. The award, given in recognition of and sincere appreciation for outstanding volunteer service, was presented by Catina Tindall, United Way Board of Directors Chair. “Volunteering is her passion and we all benefit,” commented Ms. Tindall. “Nora is an inspiration of what the heart of a volunteer really is. Her life is the example of how we should live."
Mrs. Morris has selflessly given her time and talents to many local non-profits including Children's Advocacy Center Rape Crisis Center, Safe Harbor Children's Center, Blythe Island Baptist Church, Amity House, First Steps at SGHS, CMAP, and Red Cross, Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce.
Rhonda Banister noted that “last year Nora had heart surgery and was determined to pull through because she had groceries to buy for Amity House, she had to be at the Henri Woodman Center twice a week to help. She needed to help the new moms and babies at First Steps and make sure her great grandchildren had party favors for school. Nora could not think of herself in her pain or even sit back and take a rest. She thought about everything she needed to do for others instead of for herself.”
Ms. Banister added “if not for Nora our community would not be complete!”
Volunteers of all charitable organizations are eligible and do not have to be a volunteer of United Way or a United Way Funded Agency. Nominees must have been actively engaged in volunteering for non-profits organizations in Glynn and/or McIntosh Counties over the last 18 months.

The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size,
but by the depth of the commitment
to make a difference in the lives of others.
